Update: Alexandria lives with Ruby and Jim and PRINCE (a four year old collie) in Southern California. Alexandria came by to visit her sister this weekend.

Our Story

It was a winter morning when my dad presented me with a bundle of fluff that would become my best friend. I was in first grade and Sir Walter David (for my grandpa) Scotland Yard Scotch Tape Houndt became my first collie. As a young mom I presented Laddie and then Sir George (for my dad) of Saratoga to my kids. Now my grandkids love our collie family (at present we have Gulliver,Shadow,Tess, Mercedes and Ripasso).

Below you will find the wonderful story of how a little girls love of collies became the passion for a family.

Fandancer Collies started as a small hobby kennel located in Southern Minnesota. I met Jeann when I bought my amazing Gulliver from her...(a Christmas Eve puppy...born12/24/2004).

Gulliver fast became a favorite with my husband Dr Phil and I longed for a companion...and so Shadow (Dreaming of a Legend) came into our lives.

In the Summer of 2006 we got the news that Jeann was very ill and she asked if we would adopt Soldier, Mercedes and Lassie. The very next day we embarked on a 2,000 mile drive to bring our new "kids" home. We did not make it on time to see Jeann..she passed away that day.

We strive to keep her memory alive as we share both her passion and compassion for our beloved Collies.

Our Collies move between our home(s) in San Diego California AND Columbus Montana and so we named ourselves CALTANA COLLIES .
This site will remain as a memorial so that Jeann's hard work and devotion to the breed will be remembered forever more.

No Place Like Home

OUR MARCH 2009 PUPPIES HAVE ALL FOUND A FOREVER FAMILY TO LIVE WITH. Abby is in Escondido with Patty, Cousteau is in Billings Montana with Katy and Dave and will be growing up with his niece. (a collie female born of an older Gulliver and Mercedes son ), Zucker and Kayzer now live in Mexico with Ian and Karime and family, Indy lives with Marilyn AND his two older brothers from Mercedes/Gulliver litter 2 years ago. Ripasso will stay a Caltana collie in case we decide down the road to breed again we will have something of the wonderful Mercedes/Gulliver lineage. Mercedes will retire from being a mom (as you know we do NOT puppy mill...2 litters in a lifetime is plenty!) Having multiple Caltana collies is catching on...... TWO families in Montana have 2 of our Collies, Carolina and Cesare in Mexico brought TWO Caltana Collies home to Mexico and The Varneys in California have THREE Caltana Collies. I believe that folks getting more than one and/or coming back for another one of our dogs is a testimonial to the quality of Caltana Collies and a reflection on everything Jeann did with Fandancer collies. It is also a testimonial to our own dog whisperer Dr Phil who is one of the best I have ever seen at the socialization of weanlings. We are happy for our new family members as we hope to hear about the babies and how they grow! Barb and Dr Phil

If You Had to Do it All Over Again ...

If you had it to do all over again ...

This question is frequently asked of people after they've reached a certain age in life. One unknown father gave the question some serious thought and came up with some answers I believe have a lot of merit:

1. "I would love my wife more in front of my children," simply meaning he would speak more words of affection, hold her hand more, put his arm around her more and hug her more.

2. "I would laugh with my children more at our mistakes and joys." Laughter breeds happiness, and a happy home has far fewer problems.

3. "I would listen more, even to the smallest child." It is amazing what little ones can teach us as those "pearls of wisdom" often come tumbling out.

4. "I would be more honest about my own weaknesses and stop pretending perfection." Kids know we are not perfect, and it's comforting to them to know we can acknowledge our humanness.

5. "I would pray differently for my family. Instead of focusing on them, I'd focus on me." After all, that's really where it starts.

6. "I would do more things together with my children." We repeatedly hear about fathers who get too busy to spend precious moments walking, talking, playing, shopping, fishing, cycling, etc., with their children. That's where bonding takes place.

7. "I would be more encouraging and bestow more praise." It is said that encouragement is the fuel of hope. And praise, particularly for effort, brings about even more effort in the future.

8. "I would pay more attention to little things, deeds and words of love and kindness." When you add all those little things up over a lifetime, they make a huge difference.

9. "I would share God more intimately with my family through ordinary things that happen in a day."

This unknown father has some marvelous lessons we can all use. Take his approach, and I'll see you at the top!
